Entering Data
Starting a New record
To add a new record you will need to press the 'New' button at the right side of the screen.
This will show a blank record on the screen without the browse table at the top.
You should work through the data fields and complete as much or as little data as is relevant.
The field labels might not apply to each circumstance or may not fit the label but if you use the 'ID Number field' or the 'Serial Number field' as the place to store any unique identity code or feature about an article it will be OK.
For example you could store Hallmark details in the field when you are entering jewellery details in the valuables section and for another valuable item such as a limited edition print you could store the print number in the field. Since ID numbers are not grouped for selection in reports any meaningful value can be entered.

You will find that irrespective of what you type, most typed input reverts to upper case. The ID or Serial Number field is the exception. This is to give uniformity to the application.
Drop Down Pick Lists
Where applicable dropdown selection boxes allow you to easily input data that is repeated. For example recording labels, recording artists etc. When you first start entering data these lists will be blank. As you enter data a drop down selection list will develop comprising of a choice for each different entry you have made. Take care not to mis-spell words or to enter the same item slightly differently as this will cause a new drop down entry option to appear. If this happens just modify the data entry click apply and it will be corrected.
If the option you require is not present then you can just type in what you need. Next time you use the drop down menu your entry will be among the options.

When you enter details such as artists names, any subsequent sort or search will be on the first characters of the entry.
So you need to think how to enter the data. You can either enter Sinatra Frank or Frank Sinatra, it doesn't really matter which as long as you are consistent. The norm would be to enter the surname first but it really is up to you.
